The Sailors Home

Built around 1881 to house destitute sailors who, not having homes on land or families to care for them were in need of support. The building has echoes of its original purpose. Each window was a single room designed to be like that of a private berth on a ship, or so I was told. I like to imagine swarthy old fellows swinging in their hammocks up there with a grand view of the docks.

This moody image looks powerful in the larger size.
